Overview
Harvey Milk Photo Center (HMPC) is a part of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department since the 1940s. HMPC operates the oldest and largest community wet darkroom in the United States.
The main function of the official website of Harvey Milk Photo Center is to showcase the facility and promote its services/events. It's also a portal to the registration pages of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks website.

Website Redesign Objectives
The previous website of HMPC was rebuilt quickly after a complete meltdown. The main focus then was to get the website up and running based on the original design as soon as possible. The aesthetic and branding weren't the priority at the time.
When I was assigned to the task of redesigning the website, the director wanted the website to be more functional and logical in terms of navigation. To draw more attention with simple, clean, and adaptive visual layouts. To be more dynamic and engaging.
The original website was lacking design consistency and looks crowded which makes it difficult for users to maintain focus and find what's useful.
Information Architecture
The original website navigation structure is pretty good in terms of navigation logic. The issue is for a certain page, there are too much information and noise that make the structure seems complicated and confusing. So the main goal here is to have a tidier and simpler page layout for each navigation branch to make information more manageable.
*Update
Due to the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, all onsite activities at the HMPC have been pulsed. To continue serving the community and supporting artists in the bay area and around the world, all exhibits are being presented digitally on the HMPC website's Virtual Gallery. And all opening receptions are also held online via Zoom.
To make the Virtual Gallery series more visible on the website, the access point of the galleries is pulled to the surface level. An additional registration process is added to each exhibit page.

Exhibit Promotions
Besides the website, designing promotional material for the exhibits and events is also one of my tasks. Each exhibit and artist has its own style and feeling in terms of their art works’ aesthetic. So it is important to create promotional materials that both suit the work and also delivers the necessary messages of the exhibit.
